Description

Natural PTFE Plastic Rod 12mm Diameter

Natural PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a specialist engineering plastic valued for its exceptional chemical stability, electrical resistance and ability to perform across a wide temperature range. With a melting point of approximately 327°C, this material is suitable for technical environments where conventional plastics may struggle. Its smooth, slippery surface makes it particularly useful for components that require effortless movement and minimal surface drag.

Key Features

  • Temperature Versatility: Supports operating conditions from -260°C to +260°C, with brief exposure up to +300°C.
  • Chemical Resistance: Withstands many acids, reactive chemicals and corrosive conditions.
  • Electrical Performance: High bulk resistivity makes it suitable for specialised electrical and electret applications.
  • Low Moisture Uptake: Absorbs very little moisture, helping maintain material performance in humid environments.
  • UV Durability: Offers resistance to ultraviolet exposure for suitable outdoor applications.
  • Reduced Friction: Helps limit resistance in moving assemblies and sliding mechanisms.
  • Material Considerations: Softer, heavier and generally more expensive than alternatives such as nylon and acetal.

Applications

The 12mm natural PTFE rod is suitable for producing precision seals, plain bearings, gears and sliding parts, as well as components used in cryogenic systems. It can also serve specialised electrical applications requiring high resistivity. Although PTFE offers excellent sliding properties, UHMWPE may be preferable where greater abrasion and wear resistance are the primary requirements
