Description

Natural PTFE Plastic Rod 4mm Diameter

Natural PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) is a specialist engineering polymer valued for its slippery surface, excellent dielectric performance and ability to withstand challenging operating conditions. With a maximum continuous service temperature of approximately +260°C and a minimum of -260°C, it is suitable for applications exposed to extreme thermal variation. Its resistance to chemical attack, ultraviolet radiation and moisture makes it a versatile option for precision industrial components.

Key Features

  • Exceptional Sliding Properties: Minimises drag between contacting surfaces in moving assemblies.
  • Wide Temperature Range: Suitable for applications involving very high or low temperatures.
  • Chemical Durability: Resists many acids, corrosive substances and reactive chemicals.
  • Electrical Performance: Offers strong insulating characteristics for technical equipment.
  • Moisture Resistance: Absorbs very little water, helping preserve its performance.
  • Thermal Stability: Retains useful properties across demanding temperature conditions.
  • Food-Contact Potential: Available in grades suitable for food-related applications, subject to certification.

Applications

This 4mm natural PTFE rod can be used to manufacture small sliding elements, bearing components, gear parts, sealing elements and specialised pieces for cryogenic equipment. It is also suitable for electrical insulation applications where low friction and resistance to environmental exposure are required.

PTFE is relatively soft compared with many engineering plastics, so machining requires secure support, sharp cutting tools and controlled feed rates. Its higher density and cost may also influence material selection for specific projects.
